This database is an online interface to the Pamphlet
Collections System created by the New Delhi Library
of Congress Office to manage the acquisition,
subject organization, microfiching and minimal-level
cataloging of ephemeral materials not selected
for full-level cataloging or individual microfiching.
The System is a dynamically updated database that
grows from the continuing acquisition of items
suitable for microfiching with related materials.
Since
1991, the New Delhi Office has been organizing
in subject collections and microfiching pamphlets,
little magazines and other gray literature acquired
by the office in the countries of Asia for which
it has acquisitions or cataloging responsibility.
These collections include most of the materials
acquired over the years and organized by the Library's
South Asian Section in the Asian Division, which
were returned to New Delhi for microfiching, as
well as all ephemeral publications acquired by
the office since 1991. As of October 2001, over
1,400 collections had been established and microfiched.
These collections contain approximately 21,300
individual items.
Most
ephemera published currently in South Asia will
fall within the subject of collections previously
microfiched. Newly published items are collected
until there are sufficient numbers for the creation
of another set of microfiches, designated as a
sequential "part" of the same subject heading.
For example, there are many parts to the "Women
in India" collection, first established and microfiched
in 1992. New collection headings are established
as needed to capture items on new subjects.
