Using the pull down menus, SCIMS can be searched
on one or more fields of the SCIMS record.
- To
conduct a new search use the back button or
using the key board key Alt/back arrow on key
tab.

SCIMS searches for words or phrases found anywhere
in the field and will search for all instances
of a word. For example Sri Lankan will retrieve
both Sri Lankan and Sri Lanka; Indian will retrieve
both Indian and India.

Exact punctuation is required.

SCIMS is NOT case sensitive.
LCCN:
Searches by the Library of Congress Control Number,
010 in a MARC record. This is a unique number
assigned at the time of cataloging. Example:
72-902127
Title:
Searches by the primary title taken from field
245 of the MARC record. For generic titles such
as report or annual report: Type the title / [slash]
issuing body. You may also type in any word or
portion of the corporate body as phrase. This
will retrieve all records with that word or phrase
in the title.
Example: Annual report /
Dept. of Space
Example: space. Retrieves all records with
the word space in the title including Annual report
of the Dept. of Space as well as Vayu aerospace
review.
Country:
Searches by country where the title is published
Language:
Searches by the primary language of a journal.
Frequency:
Searches by the frequency of the title.
Participant:
Searches by a particular library participating
in the South Asia Cooperative Acquisitions Program.

intellectual content of a serial.
Example: Indian Institute
of Science will retrieve all titles issued/published
by this Institute
Example: Indian Institute will retrieve
all titles with the phrase "Indian institute"

To
search more than one field
SCIMS
can be searched on multiple fields using the pull-down
menu. Clicking on more than one field will highlight
that field and search it as an AND statement with
any other field selected and highlighted. To disengage
a search field, click again on that field so it
is no longer highlighted.
Example:
Weeklies from India received by the University
of Wisconsin: Country = India <AND> Frequency
= weekly <AND> Participant = 11.
Example:
Sri Lankan Tamil journals: Country = Sri Lanka
<AND> Language = Tamil.
